I’m like most of you who attended the National Down Syndrome Congress (NDSC) Convention this past week – recuperating! However, we all know as leaders in the Down syndrome community that life must go on. No matter how much we need a vacation AFTER our trip to Denver, we must saddle up and ride on. (Yes, I spent time with my Texas friends while I was in Denver…so sue me!) And that means that while we would like to bask in the information we gathered, the new friends we met and the old friends we fraternized with….we cannot. We have to get back to work. And fast!
So does DSAIA. Especially because we have two great webinars coming up in the last two weeks of July that focus on educational issues for Down syndrome organizations. What better educational program to spend some time on than Down Syndrome Foundation of Orange County’s Learning Program? DSAIA still fields lots of questions from new/old members regarding the program so we are bringing in Dana Halle to speak to the organizations personally. We’re very excited to have Dana do this presentation just for us and look forward to a great Q&A session at the end of her presentation. This webinar COULD last longer than an hour…so be prepared to stay if you can.
And for those who would like to coordinate a Back To School Workshop for your members…we have Krissy Crites of Red River Valley Down Syndrome Society (RRVDSS) helping you do just that. No, it’s not a webinar on how to do a workshop. It is totally focused on the “back to school” topic and will include the information you will need to present as well as how to coordinate and get the stakeholders there you need. (Although Krissy is the Executive Director of RRVDSS, her background is as a special education teacher.)
And, yes, I’m posting pics of the convention in this week’s blog. Can’t help myself…too much fun recorded in these pics. If you weren't able to stop by the booth and talk to one of DSAIA's board or staff, please feel free to call us for more information on the benefits of membership! Congrats to NDSC for another great convention! DSAIA is looking forward to Indianapolis next year! In the meantime, we’ve got work to do!
